Three Gorges Dam

dam in the Chang (Yangtze) River west of Yichang in Hubei province, China
Note: The controversial Three Gorges Dam, completed in 2006 for power generation and flood control, created the world's largest hydroelectric facility. More than a million people had to be resettled before parts of three scenic river gorges were flooded by the dam's reservoir.
